Windows 10 Support for VMware Horizon? Which version should I install?

Windows 10 uses a new approach to providing updates to users. Traditionally Microsoft would release a version of Windows and then provide updates such as security and bug fixes, but not add any major, new functionality. Every few years Microsoft would release a new version of Windows that contains updates and new features but this meant customers would always have to wait years for new functionality. With Windows 10, Microsoft is giving users greater choice in how they receive new features with the introduction of a long-term servicing branch (LTSB) and a current branch (CB) version.

The LTSB is similar to how old versions are delivered today with a new one delivered every couple of years and in between each new version Microsoft will provide security updates, bug fixes and so on. Alternatively, customers can choose to use the CB method which provides security updates, bug fixes, and new features every few months.

When each LTSB is released it will converge with the currently existing CB,  allowing customers to transition from CB to LTSB, in the event they decide they no longer want to receive updates so frequently. Customers using LTSB will be able to upgrade between LTSB builds and likely one additional time prior LTSB).

SO :

Current Branch (CB) : receive new features and updates frequently every few months

Current Business Branch (CBB) : the business version of CB

Long-Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) :update will be less and new features will not be frequent (you can say every year  for example)

As per VMware KB2149393 and the below table listing the “Supported versions of Windows 10 on Horizon 7 Including All VDI Clones (Full Clones, Linked Clones, Instant Clones)”, it seems that the latest  Windows 10 1703 branch (Current Branch for Business, or CBB) is now fully supported for Horizon 7.1 and 7.2.  This is something we were expecting to be included with Horizon 7.3 (due to be released very soon) but I was happy to see that VMware is now supporting 1703 back to Horizon 7.1.

Horizon 7 Agent and Remote Experience (64 & 32 bit) , I have added the Build number to make it easy for understand, you can know your windows build number simply by running “ver” command in CMD

So which version to select for Horizon?

-As now for Horizon it seem 7.2 support more versions of windows 10 than 7.3.1, (however 7.2 have less features than 7.3.1)

-I recommended to go for Windows 10 LTSB for stability and support and it have less frequent update and this is very important in VDI operation

-build 1607 is the recommended one for  windows 10 in Horizon
